DHL Express Europe cuts paper invoices

DHL Express

DHL Express Europe has unveiled plans to eliminate six million paper invoices a year with a newe-billing solution, and has extended TAPA security certification of its offices across the

continent.

DHL announced it plans to eliminate over one third of the 18 million paper invoices it sendsout across Europe annually by 2010, thus saving approximately 2,400 trees and 600 tonnes of CO2each year. DHL customers using the new e-Billing service no longer need to receive their invoiceson paper. They simply login to an online portal to view and approve them electronically, thecompany said.

Accountis Ltd, a leading global provider of secure financial document exchange and paymentsystems, has been working with DHL for two years developing their e-Billing capabilities, and willsupport their expansion into most major European territories by the end of this year. Theenvironmental benefits of e-Billing were high on the agenda when DHL launched the service forcustomers in Belgium in 2007.

Brian Thumwood, DHL’s e-Billing Manger for Europe, said: “The success of our e-Billingproject has already delivered significant environmental savings but this is a drop in the oceancompared to what we intend to achieve in the near future. We are currently experiencing a 30%increase in the number of e-invoices sent through the system each month, proving that organisationsacross Europe are ready and able to embrace this greener technology.”

The e-Billing solution would play an important role in the company’s overall socialresponsibility and sustainability plan, he said. The solution carries a marketing strap line “e-Billing – loved by trees”.

Meanwhile, DHL Express said that it now leads the 2008 Transported Asset ProtectionAssociation (TAPA) security standards scoreboard in its European operations. Currently DHL ExpressEurope lists 42 certified facilities and expects a further significant increase in 2009.

“We are proud to be one of the few globally certified express and logistics providers, nowalso leading the European TAPA scoreboard with over 40 certified sites,” commented Ricky Fiander,Director of Customs, Security & Standards, DHL Express Europe. “This is yet another step toexpand our international platform, and we aim to top the current number significantly in 2009.”

He added: “The adoption of TAPA standards has boosted our business, in particular in the areaof transport of global high tech products. Always planning ahead, we now include TAPA standardsinto tender documents for new buildings.”
