GLS lets German customers fix the second delivery attempt online

GLS Germany

German consumers can now use the internet to arrange a second delivery attempt for parcelsdelivered by GLS.

GLS Germany said that since November recipients have been able to decide online when, where andeven whether a parcel that could not be delivered successfully at the first attempt should bedelivered to them. Until now this had to be done by phone during working hours.

The number of parcels for delivery to private persons is rising steadily due to e-commerce yetthe shoppers are often not at home, the parcels firm pointed out. This means the driver has to takethe parcel back to the depot if it cannot be delivered first time to an alternative address.

GLS has now introduced a more flexible online delivery change service on the internet so thatthe second delivery attempt will succeed. Recipients can state whether the parcel should bedelivered to the home address at a specific time or to an alternative address such as one of the5,000 GLS Parcel Shops for collection. The delivery can also be turned down.

The delivery change can be made on the GLS website or the tracking portal www.uni-track.de using the tracking ID number on the cardleft by the driver at the first delivery attempt.

“People order flexibly and whenever they want on the internet,” said Klaus Conrad, GLS Germanymanaging director. “Our aim is to bring parcels and recipients together as quickly and comfortablyas possible. That works best when they tell us what the simplest solution is for them.”
