UPS has ranked top in the consumer shipping sector on the annual “Climate Counts” scorecard forthe third year in a row and came joint 11th out of 136 ranked companies from all industries.
The US company ranked No. 1 in the consumer shipping sector with a score of 80 points (out ofmaximum 100), remaining ahead of competitors Deutsche Post DHL (78), the US Postal Service (69) andFedEx (65).
All four operators gained higher scores compared to the previous year, the Climate Countsscorecard showed. UPS and DP DHL improved their scores by four points, USPS by three points andFedEx by seven points.
Climate Counts, a US-based non-profit organisation that works to bring consumers and companiestogether in the fight against global climate change, ranks the world’s largest companies based on22 criteria that focus on measuring and reducing climate impact, corporate support of public policyinitiatives on climate change and openness and transparency in reporting. It also issues a shoppingguide to help consumers support companies that take climate change seriously and avoid those thatdo not.
“This recognition is significant because Climate Counts rigorously evaluates performance ratherthan corporate marketing claims,” said Scott Wicker, UPS’s chief sustainability officer. “TheClimate Counts shopping guide provides consumers with a signpost for companies that are trulycommitted to environmentally-responsible business practices.”

UPS said the Climate Counts ranking is just the latest in a long list of honours forenvironmental leadership, including joint highest score in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index,No. 1 in the Carbon Disclosure Project S&P 500 and Interbrand Top 50 Best Global GreenBrands.
