DHL Express has opened a new Hanoi Gateway facility at the capital city’s Noi Bai InternationalAirport to continue its expansion in Vietnam.

The newly-built US$1.4 million, 1,450 sqm state-of-the-art facility is double the size ofthe previous site and has the capacity to process 4,700 inbound and outbound shipments daily. Inoperation since August, the new facility services 27 outbound and 20 inbound internationalcommercial flights weekly.

It enables faster recovery and shorter processing time, translating to shorter shipmenttransit times and later pick-up times for customers.

Noi Bai International Airport is the key entry and exit point for all air-freight goods inHanoi and its neighbouring provinces including Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Bac Ninh alongwith various large industrial zones.

“The continual growth experienced by the industrial sector in the northern provinces ofVietnam has driven the demand for express services to facilitate cross border trade. For DHL, theVietnamese market is one with immense potential. The new facility further solidifies our leadershipposition in Vietnam and sets the stage for growth in the years to come,” said Tim Baxter, GeneralDirector of DHL-VNPT Express.

Hanoi has been experiencing high growth in recent years and the latest data released by theHanoi Statistics Office reported a year-on-year export growth of 26.2 per cent as at the end of thethird quarter of 2011, DHL pointed out.

The new facility, with its modern infrastructure, also doubles up as a service centresupporting the Vinh Phuc, Soc Son and Thang Long IZ area. The travelling time from the gateway tothese areas will improve by approximately one hour. Equipped with a fully automated materialhandling and motorised conveyor system, it will minimise handling time and shipment movement thuspreventing damages while boosting the overall efficiency.

The investment of the new gateway facilities in Hanoi follows the recent opening of DHLExpress’ new Long An Depot in Ho Chi Minh City in June this year. “No other Express company hasmade the kind of commitment to Vietnam like DHL has in the last 23 years. With the new facility,DHL is set to change the way the Express industry operates in Vietnam,” added Baxter.
