Belgian bpost acquires Asian mail and parcel carrier for further growth

Bpost International (BPI) has announced the acquisition of Citipost Asia, a mail and parcelcarrier based in Hong Kong, to continue expanding its international operations in Asia and

elsewhere in the world.

The acquisition follows a continuous increase in shipment flows with the growing success ofe-commerce, bpost explained.

Citipost Asia was founded 14 years ago and has a subsidiary in Singapore. In 2010, the companygenerated revenues amounting to HK$50 million (€4.73 million).

The Asian distributor now operates under the bpost brand, under the lead of Raimond Lau.

Peter Somers, member of the bpost Management Board and CEO, bpost parcels & international,stated: “This acquisition allows us to strengthen our future growth in the growing foreign markets.Bpost International has gained much experience and know-how in recent years, and thanks to thisacquisition, we will now strengthen our activities in the Asian market.”

BPI is a business unit of bpost managing the international distribution of mail and parcels byproviding services to customers in Europe, America and Asia. During the last 5 years, BPI hasdoubled its turnover. In 2009, it obtained a majority stake in MSI Worldwide Mail in the UnitedStates with operations in Washington, Chicago and Toronto.
