FedEx opens largest China station

FedEx Express has opened a new operations station in Shanghai, its largest in China, to adjustto growing customer demand and parcel volumes.

With an area of 5,140 sqm, the station in the Pudong Sanlin area handles the pick-up anddelivery of international express shipments for customers in the Huangpu, Jingan, Nanhui, Fengxiandistricts as well as some parts of the Pudong New District.

The facility has more than 90 employees and nearly 70 vehicles. It is equipped with an advancedinbound and outbound shipment sorting system, which can sort up to 3,500 shipments per hour. Allthe shipments are connected to the FedEx global network, which reaches more than 220 countries andterritories through the FedEx Express gateway at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

As the largest FedEx station in China, the new facility will further strengthen ouroperations and give us the flexibility to support FedEx business growth in Shanghai and eastChina.”

FedEx explained that Shanghai continues to grow rapidly as the economic centre of China withforeign trade playing a significant role. During the first half of 2011, Shanghai’s exports andimports totalled $207.89 billion which equals an increase of 21% from the previous year.

To support Shanghai’s market growth and business needs, FedEx signed a Strategic CollaborationMemorandum with Shanghai Airport Group in June focusing on the expansion of cargo and otheroperational facilities within the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

In Shanghai, FedEx currently operates one international express gateway at the PudongInternational Airport, five international express operations stations, one domestic servicedistribution centre and two domestic service operations stations.
