FedEx Trade Networks continues global expansion with three new offices

FedEx Trade Networks, the growing FedEx ocean and air freight forwarder, has further expandedits international network with new offices in Chengdu (China), Munich (Germany) and Bucharest

(Romania).

The new office in Chengdu is located in the city centre at the Hongda International Plaza.Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, the largest in mid-western China, handled 432,000 tons ofcargo last year, ranking it sixth in the country. The opening of the airport’s new cargo terminalin March 2011 is expected to boost its handling capacity to around 700,000 tons annually. Theterminal has also reserved additional land for future development as demand rises.

“Many companies are moving their manufacturing processes from the coastal cities to WesternChina in order to take advantage of the abundant labour supply in the region,” said Joseph Frank,vice president of FedEx Trade Networks Asia-Pacific region. “With our new office in Chengdu, we aredelivering on our commitment to serve our customers in the locations in which they most need thelogistics support.”

The new office in Munich is located in Hallbergmoos, close to Munich Airport. With more than1,000 tons of freight processed each day, Munich Airport is Germany’s second largest air hub andofficials recently approved an expansion plan to further increase the airport’s capacity.

“Munich’s strategic location and its proximity to more than 80,000 different companies in theregion makes it an important air cargo gateway,” said Christian Dornhaus, FedEx Trade NetworksCountry Manager for Germany. “Through our new office in Munich, we will be able to serve all ofsouthern Germany, in addition to Austria and Switzerland.”

The office in Munich is the third FedEx Trade Networks office to open in Germany and the Chengduoffice is the company’s tenth in China. The new operations in Bucharest mark the company’s entryinto the Romanian market. Since 2008, the company has aggressively expanded its global networkopening 41 offices outside the USA and Canada.

“Today’s shippers need a freight forwarder with global reach,” added Fred Schardt, president andCEO of FedEx Trade Networks. “By continuing to build our infrastructure in the world’s mostcritical growth markets, we are delivering on our commitment to provide what we feel is the mostcomplete portfolio of supply chain solutions in the industry.”

Last month, FedEx launched three distinct ocean shipping solutions through its new ‘oceanchoices’ portfolio. The new offering gives customers the ability to choose and implement the oceanservice that best fits their supply chain needs whether the product demands flexibility orspeed-to-market distribution services.
