NZ Post expands international parcel service

NZ Post

New Zealand Post is expanding its International Economy Courier service for parcels from Octoberbut is terminating the unviable equivalent service for international letters.

From October 1, the company’s International Economy Courier service, which already reaches 25countries, will serve a total of 32 countries. The new destinations are Thailand, the Philippines,Vietnam, Croatia, Greece, Hungary and Portugal. New Zealand Post will also increase the maximumsize of parcels which can be sent via International Economy Courier.

Customers will still have the option of sending parcels to any destination worldwide by thefaster International Express Courier service, NZ Post noted. A revised pricing structure forinternational parcels will be introduced from 1 October to support these changes, and to reflectthe cost of freighting goods internationally.

However, the International Economy service for letters – in which mail can spend up to threeweeks in transit before reaching its destination – will no longer be available from October 1 thisyear. The volumes of letters being sent by that method have fallen so low that for letters it is nolonger economically viable.

The cost of sending letters or cards internationally via the International Air mail servicewill remain unchanged.
