DHL Express Greater China president becomes new Asia-Pacific CEO

DHL Express has named Jerry Hsu, the former president of DHL Express Greater China, as its newCEO for the Asia-Pacific region, to help boost the company’s growth in the region.

Asia Pacific is DHL’s fastest growing region and its revenues there increased by over a third in2010.

Ken Allen, Global CEO of DHL Express, commented: “Our future is all about profitable growth andJerry has a sterling reputation, having guided DHL’s Greater China Area to double-digit growth andgenerated more than $1.5 billion sales turnover in the last few years. For years, DHL Express hasbeen the clear market leader in international time definite services in Asia Pacific and, underJerry’s entrepreneurial and passionate leadership, we will increase that advantage and optimise ourorganic growth potential.”

As the former head of DHL Express Greater China, DHL said Hsu was instrumental in developing DHLExpress’ market leadership position in the area’s key markets of Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Underhis leadership, more than $1.3 billion has been invested in the Greater China Area.

In his new role as CEO Asia Pacific, DHL said Hsu will focus on creating the most efficientmodel for the Asia-Pacific region, drive growth, increase margins and extend DHL Express’ position.Based in Hong Kong, he will be responsible for a region that includes China, Japan, Korea, HongKong, Taiwan, south-east Asia, India and south Asia, and Oceania, and direct the ongoing expansionof capabilities and infrastructure. Hsu will also oversee the launch of the company’s new NorthAsia Hub in Shanghai, to be opened in early 2012.

“To continue to grow and serve our customers in what is the fastest growing economic region inthe world, the can-do entrepreneurial spirit that lies at the heart of DHL Express will beparamount to our success,” Hsu said. “Our customers need us to be close to the market, quick,nimble and responsive, which is why we are investing in infrastructure and training. For example,as part of the Certified International Specialist programme, DHL Express is investing in certifyingall 100,000 employees as ‘International Specialists’ in the Express business.”

Hsu joined DHL Express 10 years ago from DaimlerChrysler Corporation. At DaimlerChrysler, heheld various senior positions during a 20-year tenure including Vice Chairman of Beijing JeepCorporation and General Manager of the group’s Japan, Taiwan and China subsidiaries. There, he wasinstrumental in expanding and shaping the automotive industry in Asia, particularly in Japan andChina.

At DHL Express, Hsu started as Area Director responsible for Newly Industrialised Economies(NIE), which included Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. In September 2002, he wasappointed Regional Director responsible for Greater China, Korea Peninsula and Mongolia beforebeing named President for the Greater China Area.
