DHL Freight goes green

DHL Freight, one of the leading providers of road freight services in Europe, is now offeringtwo new environmentally-friendly products.

Customers commissioning groupage (LTL), part-truckload (PTL) and full-truckload (FTL) servicesin Europe, the Middle East and North Africa can request CO2 emission reports detailing the CO2footprint of their shipments for each route.

DHL Freight also offers the option to offset carbon emissions created during transport throughcertified external climate protection programmes.

“Based on rising fuel prices, increasing carbon regulations and growing consumer awareness, theprotection of our environment and supply of green products is becoming more and more important forour business. Thanks to our environmentally sustainable products, our customers can make their ownsupply chain greener,” explained Thomas George, CEO DHL Freight.

DHL customers can request a monthly, quarterly or yearly report detailing their carbon footprintfor each route during the requested time period. Based on the CO2 report, customers can then opt tocompensate for their carbon emissions through high-quality, certified external conservationprograms, including for example biomass power plants in India, wind parks in China, hydro powerplants in Brazil or landfill gas plants in Turkey.

The calculation method follows principles from internationally recognised standards such as theGreenhouse Gas Protocol from the World Resources Institute and the CO2 and the reporting norms fortransport shipments method negotiated by the World Economic Forum.

Each year the internationally established auditing agency SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance)reviews and certifies the carbon impact of GOGREEN shipments as well as the amount of emissionsreduced and offset through this special service. This is done in alignment with ISO 14064.

Deutsche Post DHL was the world’s first logistics company to offer carbon neutral shippingservices for its customers. As part of its sustainable business and corporate responsibilityefforts, the company is continuing its investments in the improvement of CO2 neutral products.
