Night express specialist TNT Innight has invested in warehouse scanners across Germany and alsoimplemented wireless technology at all locations in the country to provide communication in real
time and to optimise processes. The new warehouse scanners represent a functional expansion of TNT’s previous software with theimplementation of the latest devices by Motorola MC and the software solution of Kratzer AutomationAG. Unlike their predecessors, the new scanners can absorb photos which are then allocated to thepackages in the data bases thus achieving a considerably higher transparency in the transportchain.
In addition, the reweighing of shipments has also been clearly simplified with the new devices:the calculated weight is entered directly into the scanner and transferred into downstream systemsthus eliminating the manual process.
As another advantage, the scanners provide in combination with WLAN technology real-timecommunication which is an important criterion for the night express specialist due to an extremelyshort time window between pick-up and delivery scheduled before 8 am, with the options before 7amand 6 am.
Thomas Steverding, Director of Operations & ICS at TNT Innight, commented: “The constanttransparency in the supply chain is becoming increasingly important for our customers. In thisregard, we were able to achieve a clear improvement through a combination of WLAN and a higherprocessing speed as well as reading accuracy.”
