USPS has launched a new economical delivery of small packages for commercial shippers with anattractive value proposition within short-range destinations.
Introduced on April 17, Parcel Select Regional Ground offers competitive pricing for high-volumeB2C shippers.
Gary Reblin, vice president, Domestic Products, USPS, said: “This new service is designed as asolution for e-commerce merchants looking to boost sales by offering free or discounted shippingcharges for online purchases. It has tremendous appeal for commercial shippers requiring acost-effective ground service for delivery of packages over shorter distances.”
Shippers choosing Parcel Select Regional Ground must have a customer commitment agreement withthe Postal Service and meet annual volume commitments of 10,000 mailpieces. Mail pieces must weigh5 pounds or less and measure 0.35 cubic foot or less. Packages must be machinable and use anIntelligent Mail package barcode or Confirmation Services barcode.
Delivery Confirmation service is included at no additional cost. Insurance, SignatureConfirmation and Hold For Pickup services are also available.
Pricing is based on entry at designated Postal Service Sectional Centre Facilities or NetworkDistribution Centres. Parcel Select Regional Ground is available for commercial customers who useelectronic manifesting and pay postage through permit imprint.
The launch of Parcel Select Regional Ground follows the announcement of a new parcel start-up UScompany EquaShip which aims to take on UPS, FedEx and USPS by becoming the ‘4th US parcel carrier’and win business from SMEs with discount prices. To be launched in summer 2011, EquaShip plans tooffer lower prices than UPS and FedEx and provide superior delivery performance, especially in thefast-growing segment of B2C e-commerce shipments.
