Geodis Ciblex has continued its geographical expansion with the opening of a new branch at Dijonin central-eastern France to improve its regional coverage.
Located close to the region’s main motorway connections, the Dijon hub will be responsible forparcel and document collection and delivery in eight neighbouring departments. The 1,500 sqmfacility, which features ultra-modern security technologies, has 10 loading bays for light vehiclesand 12 for large trucks. The 23 staff at the site handle up to 23,000 parcels a day at thebranch.
“The Dijon branch represents an additional opportunity for us to accompany clients in theirdevelopment in France and Europe,” explained Fabrice Colin, regional director of Geodis Ciblex. Thecompany noted that it has already been delivering goods to the Dijon city centre area usingenvironmentally-friendly electric-powered tricycles since May 2010.
The move follows the opening of the express company’s new hubs at Chilly-Mazarin and Roissy(just south and north of Paris respectively), Toulouse and Brussels in 2010. The fully-automatedChilly-Mazarin site, coving 5,500 sqm, can sort some 7,500 parcels an hour and handles up to 30,000parcels a day.
In the next few months, the company, with 123 locations across France and Benelux, will improveits infrastructure at Niort in western France and at Rouen and Lille in northern France.
Geodis Ciblex, which claims to be the third-largest express operator in France, specialises innext-day time-definite delivery of light parcels up to 30kgs. It is strongly positioned in thehealthcare, optical, high-tech, automotive and e-commerce sectors. The company, known as Ciblexbefore its acquisition by Geodis in early 2010, had revenues of €154 million and delivered 24million parcels in 12 months ending June 30, 2009.
