Hermes Germany has launched a new parcel delivery service at Hamburg Airport for passengers’items that are not allowed to be taken as hand luggage and which often have to be thrown away.
Passengers carrying cosmetics products or lighters in their handbags, for example, have to leavethem at the security checkpoint. To prevent these items from ending up in the dustbin, travellerscan now have them delivered by Hermes to the desired destination.
Hermes has set up a counter directly in front of the security checkpoint in order to offer thisnew specialist service. Since December, it has been offering passengers the opportunity to shipsuch items seven days a week from 6 am to 8 pm. Boxes are available for the generally small objectsand the parcel label can be filled out in minutes. The deliveries, for the standard parcel prices, are made within 2-3 days within Germany.
Enrico Hensel, terminal manager at Hamburg Airport, commented: “There are always passengers whodo not think about the fact that they cannot carry certain items in their carry-along luggage.Especially after holidays, we find presents such as perfumes and pocket knives in many bags.”
Carsten Meinders, Director Integration at Hermes, said: “Our service is very popular with ourair passengers and we have already been able to save quite a few hand luggage items for them.”
Hermes will test the counter service until the end of January and then decide whether to make itpermanent. “We are also considering expanding this service to other big German airports,” Meindersadded.
