TNT Innight Germany invests in new Hamburg depot

TNT Innight Germany has further expanded its operations with a new depot in Glinde, about 20 kmeast of Hamburg, as part of the company’s growth strategy for the coming years.

The €6 million new depot is due to be constructed by summer 2011. The 16,500 sqm facility willhave an additional 4,500 sqm of terminal space and 1,000 sqm of office space and is tailored to therequirements of the night express service provider and its customers.

To improve both the operational processes and the working environment of TNT employees, theexisting locations in Hamburg and Reinbek, a town located within the metropolitan region ofHamburg, will be merged with the start-up of the new depot. Customers will profit from fasterresponse times and shorter distances, among others, as all employees will work under one roof infuture, TNT Innight stressed.

Other advantages include the modern technologies and the hall equipment further increasingprocess efficiency. The new terminal will be equipped with the latest conveyor equipment, wirelesstechnology and more than 100 gates ensuring smooth handling of time-sensitive shipments.

When planning the construction of the new depot, the aim of reducing the CO2 emissions was alsotaken into account. For example, geothermal heat pumps will supply the entire office area withheat. Other measures are aimed at reducing water and energy consumption as well as minimisingwaste. The new Hamburg branch is an important part of the company’s certification under theenvironmental norm DIN EN ISO 14001:2005, which is planned for 2011.

Robin Dörrie, branch manager of TNT Innight in Hamburg, commented: “The new Hamburg branch willbe one of the largest sites in our network. The increased space and modern technological equipmentwill allow us to operate more efficiently enabling us to support our growth strategy and the needsof our customers even better.”

TNT Innight Germany employs about 990 staff at 23 branches across the country and operates afleet of 1,600 vehicles. In 2009 the company delivered some 12.8 million shipments.
