UPS ranked among the top five US human resources departments

UPS’s human resources department has been ranked among the top five in the US by the HumanResource Executive magazine.

In a scorecard ranking of HR functions at the companies included on the Fortune ‘Most Admired’list, the company was placed at number four. Apple came top, followed by the Goldman Sachs Groupand Nike. The remaining companies included in the top 10 were Procter & Gamble, Google, WaltDisney, Intel, Cisco Systems and Amazon.

The magazine engaged the consulting firm Hay Group to calibrate a “Most Admired for HR” list. Ascorecard was created based on four criteria from the broader Fortune rankings. These comprisemanagement quality, product/service quality, innovation and people management. UPS received anumerical score of 8.22 compared to 8.64 for the leading company, Apple.

The Human Resource Executive magazine said that all the top corporate HR departments werecommitted “to monitoring and managing employee engagement”.

Mark Royal, a senior consultant with the Hay Group, commented: “A big reason that ‘Most Admired’companies are where they are, reputation-wise, is because of their focus on people. Inpeople-centric organisations, the top leaders never stop delivering clear and direct communicationto their employees that they can – and should – thrive in the organisation.”
