DHL launches multimodal service with delivery to door

DHL yesterday launched an innovative consolidated shipment service offering delivery to door tomultiple recipients, complementing express deliveries for time-sensitive shipments.

DHL DOOR-TO-MORE is for customers seeking an elegant one-stop solution for complex internationaldistribution, the company announced. DHL DOOR-TO-MORE complements DHL BREAK BULK EXPRESS which is asimilar consolidated service for customers who have urgent and highly time sensitive shipments.

Launched by its Global Forwarding division, the new service helps customers consolidate theirinternational shipments, and clear them as a single shipment through customs. Upon arrival in thedestination country by sea or air, the shipment is broken down and delivered to multipleend-customers. The solution offers businesses lower import costs, reduced storage time and theelimination of costly warehousing. Businesses also benefit from faster time-to-market and bettercash flow.

DHL BREAK BULK EXPRESS consolidates urgent air express shipments, and delivers overnight tomajor cities in Asia or in two to three days to secondary cities in Asia as well as the US andEurope. The popularity of DHL BREAK BULK EXPRESS service has led to the expansion of the servicefor customers who want greater flexibility of shipping and transit time options now availablethrough DHL DOOR-TO-MORE, the company explained.

With DHL DOOR-TO-MORE, consolidated goods are picked up from the customer at origin and sent toan export facility to be forwarded by either air or sea. At destination (whether country, market orfree trade zone) the goods are received as a single consolidated international shipment and clearedas a single customs entry before being broken down and delivered quickly to multiple end-customers,either manufacturers or retailers. The solution means lower import costs, reduced storage time andthe elimination of costly warehousing. It also means faster time-to-market and better cashflow.

A single billing service, as well as end-to-end online track and trace capabilities and bar codescanning, gives customers maximum visibility over both their costs and their consignments withminimum administration.
