TNT yesterday expanded its e-commerce activities with the acquisition of Dutch e-fulfilmentspecialist TopPak for an undisclosed sum.
With the acquisition, through its Parcel Service business, TNT said it is strengthening itsposition as market leader in the distribution market and adding an important link to itse-fulfilment service chain. Fulfilment entails service aspects like processing orders, stockmanagement and packing products for shipping, in effect handling the entire administrative andlogistics chain for orders, either traditional or online.
TopPak, with revenues of approximately €10 million and some 6 million packages per year, is aprofitable company with significant growth potential, TNT pointed out. The company, which operatesa warehouse with 17,000 pallet positions, offers a range of services including storage, packaging,distribution, returns and data services.
The acquisition also furthers TopPak’s ambition of bringing its service to the attention ofmore online retailers. TopPak’s 100-strong workforce will remain employed at the company’s site inHouten, the Netherlands.
The acquisition of TopPak is in line with TNT’s Vision 2015 strategy on Parcels and SpecialDelivery Solutions (SDS), which was announced on 3 December 2009. TNT aims to develop focusedmulti-customer network solutions that provide dedicated service quality while improving theeconomics of its delivery networks.
TNT said it is already successfully active in the home shopping market and expects tocontinue expanding its activities in the parcels and e-commerce market in the future. It currentlyhas e-commerce and home shopping activities in several European markets, including Benelux, Franceand Italy, through its TNT Post and TNT Express divisions.
