FedEx separates from Ugandan partner

FedEx Express has separated from its partner in Uganda, East African Courier Uganda, after 12 yearsto enable each to focus on their core businesses.



The Daily Monitor newspaper reported that East African Courier (EACL) wanted to expand itsbusiness in the region. The company had acted as the local partner for FedEx, providing domesticand regional pick-ups and delivery.

“The time had come for the EACL regional brand to step out on its own and be seen as areputable party,” the company’s sales and marketing manager, Tonny Mugisha, was cited as saying. “EACL has developed a very strong set of connections and footprint countrywide and the region. Thisgives us the forward motion to go out on our own and explore,” he added.

EACL now has 55 locations in Uganda as well as operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda andBurundi.
