GLS has opened a modernised depot in Isernia, southern Italy, to expand capacity and cope withan expected rise in volumes.
The building, located within a new town centre commercial zone, offers about 30% more handlingspace and has doubled office space compared to the former building, which dated back to 1998. Thenumber of vehicle docks has also been increased. In addition, the facility is equipped with modernscanning and video surveillance systems to improve online tracking and security.
GLS Italy said that it expects to see volume growth of about 10% this year at Isernia, which islocated in the region of Molise, north of Naples. The branch covers deliveries in the province ofIsernia and parts of the neighbouring province of Campobasso.
“The new depot at Isernia is ideally designed for our operating processes and is equipped withmodern technology,” explained Klaus Schädle, head of GLS Italy. Moreover, GLS is the only expresscompany located within the new commercial zone in the new town centre, he pointed out.
GLS Italy said its network now covers 10 sorting centres, 132 branches and 3,220 trucks anddelivery vans.
