GLS Slovenia grows against the downward trend

GLS Slovenia

GLS increased its parcel volumes by 25% in Slovenia over the last three months thanks to a highquality delivery performance and despite the general downward market trend.

GLS Slovenia said it started a quality initiative in all its business units before theoutbreak of the financial crisis with the result that 98% of its domestic parcels are deliveredwithin less than 24 hours.

“In the last quarter, we did 12% better than expected in terms of national parcel volumes, agreat result,” said Janez Vengust, Division Manager GLS Slovenia. “Even though the growth rates ininternational delivery were smaller than expected, GLS customers have sent more shipments overallthan during the previous year.”

When the financial and economic crisis hit the market, GLS Slovenia was well prepared “with atightly organised and cost-effective network, efficient quality management as well as expandedproduct range,” Vengust further explained. “We have won many of the previous freight shippers asnew parcel customers who increasingly send smaller shipments in view of the current economicsituation.”

Previously, GLS Slovenia has tested nearly all its business units with the aim of optimisingtheir potential and also introduced a fair number of new systems, processes and regulations. Itinvested in modern scan technology, among others, improved customer service and restructured itstransportation unit.

The European express and parcel operator primarily focused on quality management. Since thebeginning of this year, all the GLS locations in Slovenia have been providing regular qualityaudits with considerably increased requirements. In addition, GLS measures its performance on adaily basis including the adherence of transit times or the quality of servicing to be able tocounterbalance whenever needed.

Moreover, GLS Slovenia has completely adapted its product- and service range to pan-Europeanstandards. “The unified range of products and services is clearly structured and stood the test. Itis an important cornerstone of our industrialised processes ensuring a reliable and safe handling,”Vengust said.

He added, however, that the current market situation has not stabilised yet. “We follow themovements on the markets attentively. We are able to react in a flexible way any time. If needed,we reduce our traffic and thus continue working efficiently and reliably. What we always have aneye for is quality. It is a safe anchor in economically tense times for our customers and for thepositive development of GLS Slovenia. Therefore we strive to achieve ISO certification in thecoming financial year as a preliminary completion of our quality initiative.”
