Swiss Post International (SPI) has taken over a logistics centre in Costanzia in the metropolitanarea of Turin to expand its distribution network in Italy as part of the company’s international
growth strategy.With the new site, Swiss Post has secured an important base in Northern Italy strengtheningits position on the Italian logistics market and its strategic partnership with Hermes Porta aPorta, the Italian subsidiary of the German B2C parcel delivery company Hermes Logistik.
Acquired by SPI on 5 August 2009, the facility in Costanzia is specialised in B2B logisticsservices for companies and takes charge of their complete logistics processes. Swiss Post will alsotake over the ten employees at Costanzia. The acquisition price was not disclosed.
Swiss Post International is a wholly owned subsidiary of Swiss Post and currently employsaround 1,300 staff in Europe. It operates in Italy through its Italian subsidiary Swiss Post Portaa Porta in cooperation with Hermes Porta a Porta.
Hermes and Swiss Post are focusing on their respective core competences in Italy. Swiss PostPorta a Porta is responsible for cross-border mail business and logistics services, while HermesPorta a Porta takes care of B2C parcel distribution.
About a month ago, SPI took over its Danish sales agency SPI Denmark SpS and merged it withSPI Sweden to strengthen its position in Scandinavia.
