Deutsche Post DHL has signed a five-year contract with a communications holding company AT&T toenhance telecommunications services in the US and Puerto Rico to improve its service and cost
efficiency.The new contract is part of a worldwide group initiative to realise opportunities for serviceenhancement and cost optimisation in the provision of telephony and networking services. Throughtelecommunications agreements with providers in the US and Europe, Deutsche Post DHL expects tosave more than €170 million over five years.
Under the agreement, AT&T will provide the company units DHL Express, DHL Supply Chain,DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Global Business Services divisions in the US and Puerto Ricowith secure telecommunications services including new technologies.. The service is expected to golive by the end of 2009.
The company is also implementing related programmes focused on rationalising, harmonising,and improving inter-operability of telecoms services across business units in Asia-Pacific and theemerging markets as well as throughout the Americas. These are expected to lead to significantadditional cost savings in 2009, Deutsche Post DHL said in a statement.
“The opportunities for reducing telecoms costs while improving service and networkperformance are significant”, said Stephen McGuckin, Managing Director of IT services at DeutschePost DHL. “This initiative will help us pave the way for more cost efficiency throughout our USoperations and provide a next generation platform to transform and enhance our network services inthe US over the next five years.”
In scope of the agreement are the latest state-of-the-art telecoms technologies and provenservices including wide-area network (WAN) services, local-area network (LAN) and wireless LANservices, mobile voice and data services, network security and service management.
The agreement includes a commitment to continuous innovation and strict service levelagreements to both assure further network performance optimization and cost savings over thelifetime of the contract.
