Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen has gained the DHL Fastest Lap Trophy for achieving the fastest lapsin one Formula One season for the second time year in a row.
In a statement released ahead of yesterday’s dramatic Brazilian Grand Prix, DHL said thatRäikkönen was in an unbeatable position as he was ten points ahead of his teammate Felipe Massa,his fellow countryman Heikki Kovalainen and BMW driver Nick Heidfeld with two of the fastest lapsof this season in each case.
With ten fastest laps in 17 races, Kimi Räikkönen set his own season record even before theBrazilian Grand Prix. Back in 2005, he also achieved ten fastest laps, albeit out of a total of 19races. During his Formula 1 career Räikkönen has so far recorded a total of 35 fastest laps. Thisputs him in third place on the ranking list behind Michael Schumacher (76) and Alain Prost (41).
As the official logistics partner of Formula 1, DHL honors the driver who can record thehighest number of fastest laps in one season. The trophy was first awarded in 2007 and will bepresented for the second time this year.
