Russian Post has raised its tariff rates for its universal postal service including the delivery ofletters, cards and parcels from 1 June onwards. The price increase is part of its three-year
programme to reduce losses and to modernise infrastructure and services.The price increases for universal postal services will amount on average to 17% in 2008compared to the last price increase of 14.8% in 2006, according to the Russian Federal TariffService that officially confirmed the higher prices.
Despite the price hike, however, the tariffs remain socially-orientated and do not cover thenet price of the service.
Russian Post said that the implementation of new tariffs will enable it to partly reduce itslosses and is a first step towards financial recovery of the company which is essential formodernisation, quality improvement and the accessibility of a wide service range to Russiancustomers. The modernisation programme was announced by Russian Post CEO Andrej Kazmin over twomonths ago.
