DHL has signed a two-year agreement with Precise Engineering, a US-based automotive parts supplier,to exclusively provide international shipping services between Asia Pacific and the USA. The
contract value was not disclosed.The Michigan-based global supplier of custom-machined components and tooling for theautomotive industry began using DHL two years ago when it began to source internationally. Since them, it has experienced six-fold growth, in part due to DHL’s ability to meet and in manycases exceed the requirements of its customers for expedited delivery.
“To effectively serve our customers, we manufacture and purchase components overseas thatneed to be imported for our automotive clients with the greatest speed and reliability,” said RickBarnard, Vice President of Operations for Precise Engineering. “Precise Engineering has enjoyedtremendous growth, attributed largely to an effective shipping strategy through DHL that hasreduced transit times between the US and Asia from seven days through our previous carrier to underthree,” he continued.
DHL developed a solution for Precise Engineering utilizing Worldwide Priority Expressservices, full-service customs clearance, and ground transportation. DHL collects heavyweightshipments from suppliers based in China and Korea, with DHL’s electronic pre-alert system enablingshipments to clear customs before the plane lands in the USA. Once in the USA, the shipmentsare inducted into DHL’s express delivery network for final delivery to Precise Engineering’s USplant.
