DPD has announced it will continue its strategic growth by opening another 1,500 parcel shops inGermany by the end of 2008 in addition to its existing 3,000 retail outlets. The B2C/C2C parcel
shops are targeted at smaller businesses and private customers.“At the beginning of last year DPD had 472 parcel shops in Germany. By the end of 2007, itwas already nearly 2,500 outlets,” said DPD CEO Arnold Schroven. This is a fivefold increase withinone year.
“This success encourages us to continue our offensive strategy in this market segment. By theend of 2008 we want to provide our customers a nationwide network of 4,500 parcel shops withinGermany,” he added.
Under a “shop-in-shop” strategy, the company’s parcel shops are located within retail outletssuch as stationary stores, solariums or electronics markets ensuring first-class locations, goodservice quality and high customer orientation. Since last year DPD has cooperated with the officesupply chain Staples and the Metro retail group in order to develop its B2C business and broadenits product portfolio.
All the DPD stores have high customer frequency and can easily be used as parcel pick-up ordrop-off point. A parcel shop finder on DPD’s website with route planner and opening times enablescustomers to find their nearest shop.
