Itella delivers parcels in Estonia

Itella is testing an automated parcel terminal as the first company in Estonia to offer new waysfor customers to pick up their parcels. The Finnish postal and logistics group will also launch

parcel deliveries in the Baltic state.

After starting a test of its first automated parcel terminal in Finland a week ago, Itellawill launch a three-month pilot project in co-operation with Hobby Hall in Tallinn’s Rimi shoppingcentre.

“Itella Logistics operates in eight countries. Until now, the national postal operator of thedestination country has been the primary party in charge of delivering Itella’s parcels toconsumers outside Finland. The automated parcel terminal pilot is the first step for us towarddelivering parcels to consumers through our own network even outside Finland,” explained Aku Happo,managing director of Itella’s express and parcel business.

“We will test the functionality of the automated parcel terminal concept in Estonia in thesame way as in the pilot project in Itäkeskus, Helsinki, announced a week ago. It has received verypositive feedback,” he added.

At the same time, Itella plans to launch the delivery of parcels in Estonia through R-kiosks,Finland’s leading kiosk chain with the Rautakirja subsidiary in Estonia. It will start theco-operation with three indoor R-kiosks in Tallinn within the next month, the company said.
