TNT Express contracts Quintiq for collection and delivery planning system

Quintiq

TNT Express has signed an agreement with IT company Quintiq to use its advanced planning softwarein the collection and delivery of parcels with the aim of further reducing CO2 emissions in line

with its environmental programme “Planet Me”.

With the new Quintiq system, which will replace a large number of discrete planning systemsthat are now used throughout TNT Express’s 900 depots in the world, TNT Express will support itscollection and delivery process of 3.5 million parcels and documents worldwide.

Quintiq said that the planning solution will be used to create and maintain depot profilesand allocate parcels to rounds and drivers in an optimal way. Its wide range of functions allowsusers to react quickly to short-notice changes and contingencies and enables TNT Express to improveproductivity and save on managing a variety of different planning solutions. In addition it will beable to improve tracking and tracing as well as customer service.

Initially TNT Express planned to develop a new customized planning solution in-house as itwas not convinced that a standard solution was able to support all its processes and meet all itsrequirements. Nevertheless Quintiq was able to demonstrate that its software suite for advancedplanning and scheduling could deal with all TNT Express’ issues.

“TNT Express is very pleased to work together with Quintiq on improving its planning ofcollection and delivery, thereby reducing our carbon footprint”, said Nigel Barton, DirectorStrategic Operations at TNT Express. “With the choice for Quintiq we now have a platform for allour IT planning applications within TNT Express and can thereby also increase our customer servicelevels.”

Quintiq already signed a similar contract for a real-time advanced planning and schedulingsolution with DHL Express in the end of November 2007. This expanded the existing European contractsigned in February 2007 into a worldwide agreement.
