UPS has named Derek Woodward as its new Asia Pacific head from April 1 in place of Ken Torok whoretires this spring.
Torok has been president of UPS Asia Pacific since 2003, with responsibility for all packageoperations in more than 40 countries and territories. He was previously South Florida Districtmanager in the United States, one of the company’s busiest and most diverse operations and the UPSgateway to Latin America. He also held various managerial posts in Europe and helped integrationair and ground operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
“Ken Torok has ably directed our Asia Pacific operations during a time of considerable changeand extraordinary growth,” said Dan Brutto, President, UPS International. “During his tenure, thecompany enhanced its basic network infrastructure serving the region; dramatically expanded its airlinks and services within Asia, and established the industry’s first wholly owned operation inChina and a new operating alliance in India.”
His successor, Derek Woodward (45), is a long-time UPS manager who moved to Singapore lastyear to serve as a senior vice president to Torok, responsible for all staff functions for the AsiaPacific Region. A Canadian native, he joined UPS in 1985 as a part-time package sorter and thendriver. He has spent 17 of his 23 years with UPS working outside North America in a wide variety ofmarketing, business development and sales positions, including vice president of internationalmarketing.
