DHL Express has launched regular cargo flights between St. Petersburg and Helsinki following therecent start of Moscow-Leipzig air services as part of its ongoing expansion in Russia.
The express operator is using an Antonov-26 aircraft with a capacity of five tonnes on theSt. Petersburg-Helsinki-St. Petersburg route. The flights, which started last month, operate fivedays per week.
DHL Aviation had chosen the routing because it offered optimal transit times and reliableservice for Russian customers, connecting directly with DHL’s international aviation network, thecompany said.
Adrian Marley, Country Manager DHL Russia, commented: “The launch of this flight is yetanother step to deepen our aviation capabilities in Russia. It demonstrates the successful growthtrends of our company and will help us to further enhance the services that DHL provides to itscustomers in Russia and worldwide.”
In May, DHL Russia opened a €15 million terminal close to St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport.The 13,000 sqm facility, with capacity for up to 500 tonnes of cargo daily and docking spaces for80 vehicles, handles domestic and international shipments for the city and the surrounding region.
Last month, DHL Russia also launched six weekly flights between Moscow and the new Europeanair hub at Leipzig, using a DHL-branded Tupolev-204 cargo plane with capacity for up to 28 tonnes.
