DHL Exel Supply Chain yesterday officially opened a new EUR 22 million logistics campus for theEuropean mail order business in Ludwigsau, Hesse that combines warehousing and distribution
services.The 35,000 sqm facility campus operated by the contract logistics division focuses onservices for the mail order sector, and distributes goods to end customers via two-man handling.About 70 staff are employed there.
Customers share services such as warehousing, transportation and value-added services. Thismakes logistics operations more flexible, creates synergies for customers and service providers andleads to more efficient overall organisation. Moreover, customers in Ludwigsau profit from aninnovative formation of the halls which enables more efficient exchange of goods between thestorage and the hub area.
Dr. Stefan Kurrle, CEO of DHL Exel Supply Chain for Germany, Austria and Switzerland,considers the new concept a trend-setter. “The mail order business is recovering fast. Thee-commerce sector in particular is a strongly growing market in Germany and our neighbouringcountries. With a new Logistics Campus for the home-delivery sector we offer our mail ordercustomers exact processes for product management and Europe-wide transportation of their products,”he commented.
The DHL facility in the industrial area of Mecklar-Meckbach was constructed by ProLogis,worldwide owner, manager and developer of distribution facilities. With a total area of 100,000 sqmthe site offers enough space for expansion for future customers.
