DHL Express has launched five cargo flights per week from the FlyBalaton Airport in Sarmellek insouth-west Hungary, as work on its EUR 18.3 million regional logistics centre progresses.
The company’s new logistics centre at Sarmellek, on the shore of Lake Balaton, will serve theentire Danube area and allows collection of parcels up to three hours later and delivery up tothree hours earlier in the region.
Its facility comprises 7,000 sqm of storage space and 1,400 sqm of offices. DHL is alsobuilding a 2,400 sqm, EUR 4.75 million air cargo cross-docking facility at the airport, as well asa EUR 17.8 million logistics centre in Budapest.
FlyBalaton Airport is currently undergoing extensive development and now boastslorry-to-aircraft loading, customs clearance, aircraft ground handling and unit load device (ULD)handling.
DHL Express Hungary said in August that it increased revenues in the first six months of 2007by 25.4% year-on-year to HUF 6 billion (EUR 24.4 million).
The Deutsche Post subsidiary forecast its Hungarian market share would rise over 50% withinthe next five years as a result of the expansion.
