FedEx has been recognised by the Red Cross for its “generous and longstanding” humanitarian workassisting disaster victims and supporting devastated communities.
The American Red Cross yesterday awarded its “Prestigious Circle of Humanitarians Award” tothe corporation for work over the past decade.
The award is one of the organisation’s highest honours and recognises companies andindividuals whose contributions provide lifesaving support through Red Cross programmes.
FedEx is contributing $6 million over the next five years to support the InternationalFederation of Red Cross and Red Crescent to carry out relief operations to assist victims ofdisasters and work to strengthen the capacities of member national societies, including theAmerican Red Cross.
“As a global business, FedEx is committed to supporting communities we serve through ourrelationship with the American Red Cross,” said Rose Flenorl, manager of Social Responsibility atFedEx. “We know that disasters can quickly devastate communities and we are pleased to be able touse our resources to help heal and rebuild lives.”
On a local level, FedEx said its employees were directly involved with the organisation astrained volunteers and instructors in their communities working to build awareness and increasepreparedness among community members.
FedEx, along with DHL, mobilised facilities for the US hurricane season in June, includingmobile feeding units equipped with the latest equipment to assist disaster response personnel inreacting to emergencies.
