DHL is to expand its pioneering environmental scheme, GoGreen, to other regions of the worldfollowing its successful launch in Europe.
The Deutsche Post subsidiary launched GoGreen late last year as its contribution to reducingthe greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change. The carrier said in a release yesterdaythat it intended to expand the GoGreen range of products and services to other regions, includingthe United States, over the next few years.
Berlin’s mayor, Klaus Wowereit, presented former US president Bill Clinton with a GoGreen “carbon-neutral” parcel full of cultural gifts when they met in New York this week before theClimate Summit.
GoGreen parcels are “carbon-neutral” in that DHL compensates the emissions it makes duringthe packages’ transport by donating a part of the fee it receives for the shipment to environmentalprojects such as renewable energy schemes and reforestation or investment in alternative vehicles.
Mayor Wowerweit also yesterday opened “Suitcases from Berlin”, an exhibition at the Museum ofModern Art in the city featuring art works transported by DHL to New York using the GoGreencarbon-neutral alternative.
