TNT Express said that it has created 100 new jobs for the Merseyside region with the officialopening of its GBP 6 million (EUR 8.9 million) state-of-the-art depot at Liverpool John Lennon
Airport.The express delivery giant’s new depot, which was officially opened on June 22, will handledomestic parcels for the North-West of England as well as international consignments to and frommainland Europe and further afield.
Employing approximately 110 people, the 56-bay depot on the 4.13-acre site is projected tohandle almost three million UK-based collections and deliveries a year, complemented by more thanhalf a million on the international side of the business. The depot has leading edge technology,including a ‘dolly train’ system for the quickest loading and unloading of TNT aircraft, thecompany said.
Peter Lascelles, Depot General Manager, assumes responsibility for the new Liverpool locationas well as TNT’s Manchester International Depot at Trafford Park.
“This new depot serves a dual functionality in that it will be a depot and an air gateway.This gives us the necessary presence in the area to really grow the international side of thebusiness,” he said.
Lascelles, who will be based at the new Liverpool depot, added: “We’re really going to attackthe areas where we think we can move the business forward – in particular, the automotive suppliersin the North-West and businesses in the city centre of Liverpool.”
