DHL Express has made Buenos Aires the headquarters for its operations in eight Spanish-speakingSouth American countries.
The Deutsche Post subsidiary has invested some $40 million in Argentina since 2001, includinga $25 million, 22,000 sqm centre with offices in the Mataderos district of the capital.
A further $2 million has been earmarked for expanding Mataderos as it becomes the regionalheadquarters, also covering Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela andColombia, according to the business newspaper El Cronista.
“From now on, the team leading activities in the Southern Cone (Argentina, Chile and Uruguay)will be responsible for DHL Spanish South America,” regional vice-president Norberto Lovaglio toldArgentinian journalists at a presentation in Buenos Aires last week.
DHL Express has over 3,000 employees in the nine countries, 560 in Argentina, and alreadyoperates a hub at Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza international airport for 10 countries.
The Argentine subsidiary had revenues of around $40 million last year and DHL Express had aturnover of $300 million in the region as a whole, the news agency Buenos Aires Económico reported.
