GLS recruits Bulgarian partner

GLS strengthens in Bulgaria

GLS, Royal Mail’s parcels subsidiary, has brought Interlogistica, a Bulgarian partner, into itsEuropean network, following the accession of the south-eastern European country to the EU at the

start of the year.

Interlogistica was one of the first express and parcels operators on the Bulgarian market andcovers practically the whole country within 24 hours, with two hubs in Sofia and Varna, 19 otherdepots, 78 delivery vehicles and seven long-distance lorries. It also handles general cargo, airand sea freight.

“This partnership allows us to enlarge our network in south-east Europe,” said Rico Back, GLSchief executive. “Bulgaria is a promising market. Its entry into the EU should bring with it anincrease in international business and consequently parcel flow.”

GLS parcels destined for Bulgaria are currently delivered to Sofia by air from the company’sEuropean hub in Neuenstein, Germany. Interlogistica takes charge of shipments at Sofia,transporting them to its centre near the airport for distribution.

“Interlogistica responds to our quality demands in terms of reliability, speed andvisibility,” said Back. The Bulgarian firm is linked to GLS’ IT network, which handles 290 millionparcels a year Europe-wide.
