UPS has signed a new five-year deal to continue its sponsorship of US stock car racing until afterthe 2011 season. Stock car racing is one of the largest spectator sports in the world, with some 75
million fans in 150 countries.The US express company announced the deal with the National Association for Stock Car AutoRacing (Nascar) in the week before the world’s most famous race – the Daytona 500 – which startsthe 2007 season this Sunday, 18 February.
As Nascar’s official delivery company, UPS will provide trackside and logistics services tothe stock car racing industry throughout the 22-track Nextel Cup series. UPS began sponsoring thesport in 2000.
“Over the past seven years, our relationship with Nascar has made UPS synonymous withAmerica’s fastest-growing sport,” said Patrick Guilbert, UPS vice president of sponsorships.
“UPS is celebrating its 100th birthday in 2007 and, as we look to the future, we know thisNascar partnership is contributing to the long-term growth of our company.”
UPS says it is the delivery company to 99% of the more than 1,000 businesses, race teams,tracks and other sponsors and suppliers involved with Nascar.
The Atlanta-based carrier has this year moved its team sponsorship with stock car racing starDale Jarrett to the new Toyota Camry which debuts on Sunday and also maintains six individual tracksponsorships at the Bristol, California, Daytona, Homestead-Miami and Texas speedways, and RichmondInternational Raceway.
