TNT said yesterday that KLM’s engineers would maintain the express carrier’s two Boeing 747-400Extended Range freighters that will be used for cargo flights between China and Europe.
The first 747-400 ER was delivered to TNT just before Christmas and the second is expected inthe spring, via financial partners Guggenheim Aviation Partners.
KLM already maintains TNT’s growing Boeing 737F/QC fleet and executes two-yearly maintenancechecks on its BAE146 aircraft at its subsidiary in Norwich, UK.
TNT currently operates a fleet of 46 aircraft that includes six Boeing 737 freighters and oneBoeing 757 freighter.
“With the arrival of the TNT’s first B747-400 Extended Range freighter, TNT Airways is nowlooking at expanding its successful cooperation with KLM Engineering & Maintenance,” TNT saidin a statement.
KLM’s engineering and maintenance division joined forces with Air France Industries when thetwo airlines merged in 2004 and the resulting entity is now a world-leading maintenance providerwith a joint workforce of 15,000.
