Spain’s Unipost sees sales rise by 15%

Unipost, the main postal competitor in Spain to state-owned Correos, reported sales of EUR 89million for last year, up 13% on 2005.



The company, 37.8% owned by Deutsche Post, processed 513 million items of mail during 2006,11.5% more than the year before.

Some 6% of business came from the international channel, through DHL Global Mail. The companydid not release earnings figures in a statement to the Spanish media.

“The good results and good profits achieved mark a before and after in the history of thecompany,” director general Pablo Raventós said in a release. “They confirm our business strategyand reflect the excellent health of direct marketing in our country thanks to its effectiveness andprofitability as a communications channel.”

Raventós said exploiting the potential of direct marketing services and increasing the levelof international business should see Unipost reach sales of EUR 100 million this year.

The company claims over 15,000 customers in all sectors and a network of 185 facilities andstaff of 4,200.

Unipost was set up six years ago, a merger of regional postal operators in Barcelona,Valencia and Zaragoza.

Since 2001, it has achieved annual growth of 15% per year and now delivers over two millionitems a day throughout the country, about 16% of the liberalised market.
