TNT Express plans to link up its growing Middle East road network to its existing European networkin 2007, opening the way for road-based express services between the two regions.
“The (Middle East) road network is the backbone of TNT’s regional strategy and we plan tolaunch routes linking the Gulf countries with the wider Middle East and Europe next year,” RodneyEllis, TNT Express’s commercial and marketing manager for the Gulf region, told the Dubai-basedKhaleej Times newspaper. Ellis said that TNT sees good growth opportunities in the Middle East,Turkey and Eastern Europe.
TNT will extend the Middle East road network, which currently covers the Gulf states, SaudiArabia and Iran, into Jordan, Syria and Lebanon later this year. It could then launch a servicelinking Syria to Turkey, which forms the easternmost point of its European road network.
