Swiss Post has announced a massive expansion of its alternative collection point network forparcels. The company plans to expand its network of PickPost points from just 42 at present to 322
locations across the country.Swiss Post said it is responding to changing customer needs and the increasing number ofsingle households where no one is available to receive parcels and which make personal collectionfrom a post office increasingly difficult. Online shoppers will also be able to make use of theservice by arranging to have their online orders delivered to a PickPost location.
The first PickPost locations were introduced in 2003 and there are currently 42 retailoutlets where customers can arrange to collect their parcels. The PickPost network will be expandedwith more than 300 additional locations, including 44 Swiss railway stations, Swiss Post said.These will be outlets at convenient locations where there is a large flow of consumers. Theextended service will be offered free of charge.
Registered customers are informed by SMS or e-mail once their parcel has been delivered to aPickPost outlet and can pick it up at a convenient time.
