Pos Malaysia Looks For Further Collaboration Among Asean Members

Malaysian National News Agency Bernama reported that Post Malaysia Bhd is looking atbusiness alliances and collaboration with postal organisations of Asean nations to strengthen its

competitiveness and enhance its postal delivery service. According to Chairman, Datuk Ikmal HijazHashim common projects with Asean postal organisations could include joint marketingstrategies on express mail services, promotion of parcel services as well as joint stamp andphilatelic products. “Pos Malaysia is also upgrading its international remittances services tospeed up payment transaction,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the 12th AseanPostal Business Meeting.

Non-postal services of  Pos Malaysia such as payment of utilities and remittanceservices were growing as a significant contributor to group’s turnover. He expects the currentde-pegging of the ringgit also to have a positive impact on Pos Malaysia as it wouldhelp to lower operating cost structure. “However, the competitive business environment compoundedby the growing number of new entrants in the industry may exert some pressure on our bottomline andthus new ways to enhance earnings will have to be explored,” he is cited.
