Johnson Matthey Catalysts renews distribution and warehousing contract with TDG

TDG

Johnson Matthey Catalysts, part of speciality chemicals company Johnson Matthey

Plc, has renewed its contract with TDG European Chemicals for the inbound distribution and storageof catalyst products for a further three years.

TDG has held this contract since Johnson Matthey Catalysts outsourced its distributionactivities 5 years ago, following the need for additional space at its catalyst manufacturing sitein Clitheroe, Lancashire.

All production output from Clitheroe is trunked to TDG’s Warrington site, where it is stored ina 60,000 sq ft (4000 pallet spaces equivalent) dedicated area. One of the largest top tier COMAHsites in the UK, Warrington was chosen not only because Johnson Matthey Catalysts’ high value, catalyst products needed specialist warehouse facilities but also because it is so well placed forboth export and UK distribution.

Catalyst product comes into the warehouse in 250 kg drums. About 10% of the total weight isconfigured to meet specific end customer requirements in TDG’s purpose-built packaging facility. This includes both making up 1 tonne units and breaking down the drums into smaller packages.

“We are increasing the amounts to be packaged all the time, so TDG has invested a further £100Kin this area as part of the new contract with us,” says Mel Neale, Logistics Manager for JohnsonMatthey Catalysts. “Over the past five years we have been on a mutual learning curve, but therehave been no surprises – which is one of the reasons we’re renewing our contract.”
