DHL Express delivers hand disinfectant supplies to 340 German hospitals

DHL Express has successfully delivered vitally needed supplies free of charge to produce hand disinfectant for 340 hospitals across Germany.

The company has transported 14 tons of glycerin and 35,000 liters of hydrogen peroxide for the production of disinfectants at hospital pharmacies nationwide. Stocks of hand disinfectants in hospitals have fallen rapidly due to more intensive hand washing as part of measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

DHL Express said the measure is one of many that it has made to ensure that supply chains are maintained, especially for urgently needed products from the field of medical technology and by pharmaceutical companies to deal with the corona crisis.

"With the new SARS-CoV-2, we are facing an unprecedented challenge in Germany which we can only master with joint efforts," said DHL Express Germany CEO Markus Reckling.

“As a global logistics company, we see it as our main task to connect people and improve their lives. It was therefore natural for us to support this exemplary initiative and through our network to ensure that our German hospitals are supplied with hand disinfectants.”

Other companies which supported calls from the German health ministry and the association of hospital pharmacies (ADKA) to provide and organise supplies for hand disinfectant production included Shell Germany, Evonik, Olin and Dow.

“German hospitals would like to thank the companies involved in this emergency inventory action. The existing supply bottlenecks will be significantly eased with this basic supply,” declared ADKA president Professor Dr. Frank Dörje.
