Turnaround expert David Steiner has been given the job of completing the transformation of the US Postal Service from a chronic loss-maker over-reliant on the declining mail business into a profitable and competitive delivery company with a stronger focus on packages.
Steiner, a FedEx board member who reportedly has the backing of President Trump, was appointed on Friday (May 9) by the USPS Board of Governors as the 76th US Postmaster General and CEO, replacing Louis DeJoy who resigned in February and left in March.
The appointment has overshadowed the Postal Service’s latest financial results, which saw flat revenues amid fluctuating package trends and heavier losses, and plans for higher shipping rates as of mid-July.
