Amazon has unveiled a wide range of operational investments and technological innovations, including more same-day deliveries across Europe, hundreds of new automated packing machines and electric vehicles, and diverse advanced automated delivery station technologies.
The flood of announcements came as the e-commerce giant invited people to take a behind the scenes look at its latest innovations and investments as part of a ‘Delivering the Future’ event in Dortmund, Germany.
“These latest innovations will help us better serve our customers, support the employees who make that process happen, and show up for communities in which we serve around the world,” Amazon noted.
Same-day delivery expansion
One of the most significant announcements was Amazon’s plans to significantly expand its same-day delivery service across Europe. The firm plans to launch in 20 new locations over the next year, including cities like Augsburg in Germany, Metz in France, and Bergamo in Italy.
“We’re now offering same-day delivery in over 135 locations in Europe, from major capitals like London and Vienna to smaller cities such as Erfurt,” said Rocco Bräuniger, Vice President for Amazon Stores in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and EU Expansion Countries. “We’re working to expand even further and allow later order cut-off times, helping customers receive orders the same day.”
