Fives to supply Colissimo with sorting system for Normandy site

Parcels on a Fives sorting system

International industrial engineering group Fives has won a contract from Colissimo, the French parcel delivery brand of La Poste Group, to equip its hub in Rouen, Normandy, with a new high-capacity sorting system to increase throughput.

The new system will be equipped with two overlapped GENI-Belt cross-belt sorters from Fives, with a length of more than 1km, several GENI-Feed high-speed induction lines and hundreds of chutes to feed minivans, roller cages and trucks to deliver parcels locally and internationally.

Once the work is complete, in summer 2024, Colissimo will be able to sort more than 300,000 items a day in the Rouen, Normandy hub. And as parcel flows can fluctuate, Fives has also designed a scalable solution that can increase the system capacity up to 116% of its nominal throughput with minimum effort and investment, it noted.

According to Fives, its engineers designed the final system layout in collaboration with Colissimo experts to “come up with the best possible solution that combines both functionality expectations and customer budget.”

Colissimo and Fives partnership

Colissimo has been working on the renovation of its overall delivery network in France since 2017. The program includes the renewal of existing logistics facilities, as well as the setting-up of new sorting systems to enhance the delivery service within and outside France.

As part of this plan, Fives has designed and installed handling systems in hubs in Douvrin and Les Arcs-sur-Argens, and participated in the realization of the sorting solution in Pontcharra. All those systems have now been handed over and have been in operation since 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Speaking about the recent Normandy project, Benjamin Le Moult, Sales Manager and Key Account Manager, GeoPost at Fives Intralogistics, said: “We are proud to collaborate once again with such an important player as La Poste Group.

“After many projects completed for La Poste Group seeing that they trust again in our company, illustrates that the expertise collected in all these years of activity and the efforts we have made to fine-tune our technologies, have paid off.”
