Ansi Arumeel, the internationally well-known CEO of Estonian postal group Omniva, has been dismissed from his position following disagreements over strategy.
The group’s supervisory board decided at a meeting yesterday (September 24) to dismiss the management board chairman, according to a company statement.
Arumeel is well-known in the international postal community and has been a regular participant at industry conferences and other events in Europe in recent years.
“The decision to dismiss Ansi Arumeel from the position of the Chairman of the Management Board did not come hastily, but during our three-month cooperation we came to a conclusion that the organisation needs changes to move forward,” explained Sten Soosaar, Chairman of Omniva’s Supervisory Board.
“We would like to thank Ansi for his contribution to the development of the company both as a Chairman of the Management Board and during the prior 15 years,” Soosaar added.
Arumeel said he understands the Supervisory Board’s decision. “We had a shared vision about future postal services with the Supervisory Board, however the cooperation in the details did not go smoothly. Therefore, at this point, it is better to part ways,” he commented.
Until the end of the year, the duties of the Chairman will be fulfilled by other members of the Management Board, with board member Andre Veskimeister coordinating their work. All members of the Management Board will report directly to the Supervisory Board.
In July, Omniva announced record half-year revenues and profits despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on business. The group reported revenues of €63.8 million for January – June 2020, a rise of 4.6% on last year, and a profit of €1.7 million compared to a slight loss last year. Growth was driven by the parcel business while mail volumes continued to decline.
AS Eesti Post, which uses the Omniva brand, is a state-owned company that belongs under the domain of the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communication. It operates in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
